Category: Animals
Awarded: 2nd Place
Points Awarded:  21.7
Image Number:
Title: Having Lunch
Maker: Irma Wootton
I apologize for the scan on this slide—the actual slide is more striking.  A good composition, with the vegetation, particularly the changing foliage in the background, adding much to its attractiveness

Title: Splash of Color
Maker: Jean Barber

Brilliant color and sharpness.  It’s always difficult when photographing masses of objects to cut off the composition at the right points, but nicely done here

Dec 2008: Slide Competition
Category: Flowers
Awarded: 2nd Place
Points Awarded: 23.8
Image Number:
Title: Summer Delight
Maker: Bill Barber
A classic subject we have all struggled with.  Fine color saturation.  The maker used the colorful background as a frame for the butterfly and flower, but maintained good separation of subject from background

Awarded: 2nd Place
Points Awarded: 24.3

Title: Feeding Time
Maker: Bob Keslow
Since the maker is commentating, no self-praise.  The image is from Galapagos, with its remarkably unafraid and approachable wildlife

Sept 2008: Slide Competition
Category: Open
Awarded: 2nd Place
Points Awarded: 23.0
Image Number:
Title: Elizabeth's Rose
Maker: Don Kenney

I apologize to the maker for the scan.  The image is striking as it exists here, but in the original, there is a subtle background of dark leaves that effectively is separated from the blossom, but could not be captured in the scan.  Success in flower photography requires finding a perfect bloom (done) and then composing and exposing perfectly (done).  The color saturation is outstanding.
